"My Portugal" by George Mendes
We met Chef George Mendes about a decade ago at the (now closed) Michelin-starred Iberian restaurant, Aldea in NYC. Every bite of every dish made us smile.
We are thrilled to share his collection of over 100 recipes in "My Portugal" (Hachette). Written in partnership with Genevieve Ko, who has coauthored cookbooks with several other internationally-reknowned chefs, this story of Portuguese gastronomy is a kitchen must.
This cookbook features a mix of home-style and restaurant recipes alongside stories of his native Portugal. It's true, some of these are for the ablest in the kitchen (so follow the recipes closely), but all are 100% true Portugal and a glimpse at the culinary richness of the country.
To catch Chef in action, head over to Veranda Soho in NYC where he is now making some culinary magic happen yet again.
His friends, Eric Ripert & Daniel Boulud, weigh in on "My Portugal":
"George is a creative genius whose culinary talent shines through each and every one of his dishes...His recipes are simply delicious and will leave readers with a strong appreciation for Portugal and its cuisine!" Eric Ripert
"George is an amazing chef, and we share the common approach of bringing our own personal food heritage to New York City. His cuisine is filled with the intensely satisfying flavors of a casual Portuguese feast--updated with a beautifully modern presentation and technique du jour. I can see you trying these recipes at home while sipping a nice chilled glass of vinho verde!"-- "Daniel Boulud, chef/owner, The Dinex Group"
